Why Are the Redskins so Bad? |
|
The
Redskins and their fans entered the season with at least
"some" hope for a better year. Maybe not for the Super
Bowl, nothing over the last 15 years had given them
reason to think "Big" changes were in store. No- rather,
they were hoping for a slightly above average record and
to slide ass first into the playoffs as a Wildcard team.
Those hopes were quickly dashed... Why?First,
let's start at the top.
Dan Snyder is not a good owner. He is a fan boy who
bought his favorite team. And even though he is
not the General Manager, he allows himself the belief
that he is qualified to hire one. He is not.
Bruce Allen is not a good GM.
Quarterback
From Case Keenum to Dwayne Haskins to Colt McCoy, then
back to Keenum and then finally, back to Haskins. I
think that about says it all. And there's nothing to
look forward to in that group either. Haskins is not
their franchise QB.
Defense
Inconsistency. The young and the old are not
jelling. Cornerback Josh Norman has lost a step or
three.
Coaching
Jay Gruden was not the answer. As we have seen....
Interim coach, Bill Callahan is doing better than Gruden
was able to accomplish and
all he does is run the ball.
I remember when Gruden
was hired...
My friend, a huge Redskins fan, who coveted getting
"John Gruden for the Skins, called me one morning with
his news...
"The Redskins have hired John Gruden as
head coach," he told me with delight. Oh yes,
he was on top of the world and "Smug" was his middle
name.
Well, I doubted his news and immediately
got online to verify the claim. Imagine his shock and
sadness when I was happily able to correct his mistake.
"No Manny," I told him with a smugness of my
own, Not John Gruden...Jay
Gruden."
"Who's Jay Gruden?" He asked.
"Exactly, I said."
Here's the thing... The Redskins are as far away
from a winning season as the Cowboys are a Super Bowl. |

Aikman Interested in GMing an NFL Team |
|
Just not with
Dallas
If Aikman gets that opportunity, he doesn't expect it to
be with the Dallas Cowboys, the only NFL team he ever
played for. The reason: Jerry Jones. Jones, in
Aikman's opinion, is too stubborn to hand those duties
over to anyone but himself.
"I think that's a real long shot," Aikman explained on
1310 The Ticket.
"I believe that it's unlikely that Jerry will ever bring
somebody in that can help this football team in that
regard just because he's been real stubborn and
steadfast".
Jones obviously believes he's the man most capable of
bringing the Cowboys another Super Bowl. After all, in
his mind, he is the reason the Cowboys won three Super
Bowls in the nineties, not Jimmy Johnson, something the
rest of the NFL world knows to be Jones' own little
fantasy.
On a side note....Jimmy Johnson is still not in the
Cowboys ring of honor. Of all the people since the Tom
Landry years that deserve to be there, his name is at
the top of that list and that name should be right
beside Troy's, Emmitt's, and Michael's. ...What a
disgrace.
This writer firmly believes the Dallas Cowboys will
"never" win another Super Bowl as long as "Jerrah" is in
charge. |

We Know Why
Dallas is Losing
...and only a new coaching
philosophy will
fix it. |
by paydirtfootball.com |
Dallas Cowboy fans; do you remember the optimism you
had before this season started? Dak was going to be
better. Your young linebackers were off the charts,
upgraded wideouts, a great offensive line, a top ten
defense. The wise ole tight end, Jason Witten, had
returned to the fold. Kellen Moore was going to shake
things up and be less predictable. I could go on and
on....
So now it's the day after the loss to the Chicago Bears
and your team is 6-7. You sit there wondering, what happened
and who's to blame as you slowly lose your football
mind.
Jimmy Johnson left the organization after the 1993
season with back to back Super Bowls, and not counting
the coat tails Super bowl of '95 Coach Gunsmoke
was able to claim, the Cowboys have been like a slinky
on an escalator, always getting there but never
arriving; this all under the sole direction of Jerry
Jones. It's time for a change. It's time for Jerrah to
hire a genuine head coach and retire to the front
office to write checks where he can be... (The Cowboy in the high
Castle).

What's Wrong in Big D? |
by jeff beyel |
One season ago the Dallas Cowboys
were on their way to an NFC East Division crown
finishing with a 10-6 regular season record. The
defense was among the best in the NFL led by a duo of
young, athletic, and very fast linebackers: Jaylon
Smith and Leighton Van Der Esch. Now, one year later,
these very same Cowboys are in utter disarray, below
.500, likely to miss the playoffs, and will probably
fire long time head coach Jason Garrett.
How did this all happen? Last year, offensive
coordinators could not figure out ways to contend with
the speed of the Dallas linebackers. While playing a
base 4-2 with a single high safety, Dallas linebackers
were able to give run support, short and medium range
coverage responsibilities, and even blitz when called
upon. The defensive success led to a false sense of
security which morphed into a doomed philosophy that
believed no NFL team would be able to solve the
riddle of the Cowboys' defense. And, that very same
philosophy led to a complete lack of evolutionary game
scheming.
But what exactly does all this pontificating
actually mean?
Let's take a look at what the
Dallas base 4-2 is designed to do and go from there.
